Apparently, Rihanna's 'Work' Could Have Been an Alicia Keys Song

Wow.

“Work” became a mega hit for Rihanna and to this day it’s one of her biggest songs.

What’s funny is that, at a time, it could’ve been Alicia Keys’s song instead. According to PartyNextDoor, who wrote the song, he wasn’t entirely sure who was going to make the song a hit, but RiRi fought to make it hers.

“Her label didn’t care for Caribbean music at the time,” he told the New York Times in a recent interview, also alluding to the fact that he almost kept it and gave it to Keys. The OVO member also remembered meeting Rihanna for the first time. “The first feeling I got was, ‘Why am I here?’ All these guys have made hits already.”

Party’s story hasn’t been corroborated by everyone though. Swizz Beatz claims that Alicia’s involvement isn’t true and replied to Complex’s tweet about it. “False facts with the work song ..... But I love Complex,” he replied among a myriad of heart emojis.

PartyNextDoor is proud of how the song turned out, though. That, along with his contributions to Drake's Views, which spent 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 200 list, has Party understandably smug, concluding that, “You don’t really know anything about me, and that’s how I like it.”
