Rappers Offer Their Thoughts and Condolences Regarding the Loss of Terence Crutcher
On Monday (September 19), video footage documenting the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher began making its rounds online.
As more details developed, it was released that the 40-year-old father was in fact unarmed and was shot by officer Betty Shelby, who claimed that Crutcher was behaving erratically and was resistanting police orders. Video footage of Crutcher with his hands in the air show that this is not the case.
Terence Crutcher was attending to his stalled SUV over the weekend when he was approached by police officers and events escalated, tragically leading to his death.
As celebrities and rappers alike take to social media to voice their condolences and frustration in the matter, many are pointing out that news of yet another innocent Black man dying at the hands of police comes just days after a man was suspected of planting bombs in New York and New Jersey but was apprehended without being fatally shot, as well as while the nation continues to be upset by the peaceful protest of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Meek Mill, for one example, was outraged by the contrasting situations, taking to Instagram to share a passionate reaction in all capital letters, while T.I. pointed out that “America continues to remind US this ain’t OUR country.”
