As the 2016 Presidential Election inches towards citizens hitting the ballots, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump remain trending topics for a plethora of comments, endorsements and controversies. On Sunday, the two faced off in their second debate, which may have sent undecided voters in one direction or the other. One voter who already knows where he will stand in November is Vic Mensa.
The Chicago rapper says he will “undoubtedly” give his vote to Clinton.
“I feel that my community and our community as Americans, and also as citizens of the world, is in a safer place in her hands by far than in Donald Trump’s hands,” he said.
The MC points to Clinton’s political experience as a strong deciding factor, as well as the divisive nature of Trump’s campaign. While Vic admittedly doesn’t not agree with the former Secretary of State’s support of policies spearheaded by her husband, President Bill Clinton, he still believes it is important to place a vote. To do otherwise according to Vic, is to be “disillusioned.”
“I’m not really the biggest supporter of politicians in general,” he said. “But being that we’re born into this society, to act like it doesn’t hold weight and hold merit in our lives is just being disillusioned, and I like to live in a real world.”
Popular rhetoric surrounding this year’s election is the idea that voters will be choosing “the lesser of two evils” with a vote for either Clinton or Trump. To this, Vic Mensa has a perfectly logical answer.
“Even if you are voting for the lesser of two evils, the impact of either one is real. So the lesser of two evils seems like the better option than the greater of two evils to me.”
