Purple Praise: Two Brand New Prince Albums Are on the Way

The Purple One lives forever!

Published October 21st

Death isn’t standing between unreleased Prince music and the fans who crave it. The Purple One is slated to posthumously release two albums from the vault beginning next month.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise as the state of ownership of the Renaissance musician’s catalog seemed to be up in the air. NPG Records and Warner Brothers seem to have it together, though, and the first of two projects, which will be a best-of called Prince 4Ever, will be released on November 22. You’ll get classics like “Raspberry Beret" and “When Doves Cry,” but you’ll also get a previously unreleased song called “Moonbeam Levels,” which was reportedly recorded in 1982. The album will also contain a booklet with never-before-seen photos by Herb Ritts.

The second album is planned for release in early 2017 and will be a remastered deluxe version of Purple Rain. That LP was supposedly planned with Prince’s input and will come with a second full album of previously unreleased music. Further details for that one have not been released.
