Common is embracing the "visual album" trend.
The rapper/actor celebrated the release of his new album Black America Again (which dropped Friday, November 4) with a 21-minute short film to accompany it, executive produced by Selma director Ava DuVernay and and directed by Selma's lead cinematographer Bradford Young.
The clip, Common tweeted, is a "meditation" on Black America through the visual poetry of stylized shots and vignettes. The piece pays tribute to spaces occupied by Black folks, particularly in Chicago, as well as Baltimore teen Freddie Gray, who died in police custody and sadly never got justice.
