Lil Durk Says He Doesn't Blame Kanye West for Keeping a Distance From Chicago

He says it has to do with industry politics.

Although Lil Durk and Kanye West are both from Chicago, the two rappers understandably are at different stages in their career, and this also affects how each remains involved with the happenings of their mutual hometown.

Considering that Chi-Town has been plagued with gun violence in recent years, with 761 homicides in the year 2016 alone, Lil Durk recently was asked if he thinks it's time for artists native to Chicago, such as West, to get more involved.

In a new conversation with VladTV, the 24-year-old weighed in on what it's like in Chicago now and how he personally has been giving back.

During the sit-down, he was asked if he thinks artists out of Chicago could be doing more to improve the anguish plaguing their cities.

"It's like two different lanes, you have the streets and then you have them," Lil Durk said, talking about how A-list artists from Chicago, such as West, Chance the Rapper and Common, each don't do as much as they probably could. "I rock with Chance, I rock with Kanye, I rock with Common. It's hard for them to come together because it's like... Kanye don't want to risk his politics. They don't want to risk what they have going on and they'd rather do it on their own. I can't blame them for that. They want to do things on their own."

So while there is a disconnect between what is happening between those in Chicago now and those who have since moved on from their roots, Lil Durk feels as though he personally is doing what he can. He also mentioned he'd be doing a lot more if he "had Birdman-type money."

Lil Durk also explained that he feels optimism for getting the city together in the future and is going to keep putting on for his city however he can.

Take a look at the full interview below, with Lil Durk talking about the hardships Chicago is going through and possible solutions around the two-minute mark.
