Premiere: Dondria Reminds Us That No One’s Irreplaceable With ‘Options’

Let her let you know—she’s got it like that, too.

When Texas’s soulful crooning southern belle Dondria serenaded us with her 2010 “You’re The One” hit, we all fell in love with the idea of a new songstress reviving the ‘80s and ‘90s R&B scene.

But after signing with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def off the strength of her popular YouTube cover song sessions and releasing her debut album via the label, she’s now reemerging with a new single, a new look, and a new memo for the patriarchal player’s club: “Options.”

Donned in all things flawless, Dondria channels bad, bold and sexy confidence in the visual for the single, shrugging off any and all men who can’t tell by now that she’s not just any average woman. As demonstrated in her early career, Dondria’s soft vocals still hold powerful versatility in vocal range. As if the grandiose opening scene isn’t enough to stress Dondria’s VIP status, where her honey blonde curls are pampered and her face primped with makeup finished, she then proceeds to vibe out in a white-space backdrop that showcases that she knows a thing or two about magnetizing choreography as well.

“Late night studio sessions, out here in the A,” she sings along the bassline. “Said you’d hit me back by 7, you’re not the only one trying to be bae.”

Drilling her potential lover on how to properly deal with a woman of her stature, Dondria warns him that she wouldn’t think twice about placing him on the chopping block should he ever think she’s one to be slept on.

“While you out here acting up, I say I got a few n**gas that’ll step right up,” she sings. Oh, and don’t be fooled—he’s not the only one with a little black book.

In constructing the track and accompanying visual, Dondria shared that her experience filming the video was among one of her best yet.

“Filming the video to 'Options' was so much fun," she said. "I've worked with the director Dwayne Griffith on quite a few projects so I knew he would help me bring my vision to life."

Complementing the video’s message, she also took a different, more unique approach to its creative vision.

"Instead of having different options of men in the production, I chose to include different hair, makeup, and wardrobe options,” she added. “More fitting for a young Queen!"

As Dondria continues to upgrade her position in the R&B ranks, she’s also making leeway for her forthcoming The Day of the Don EP. The project parallels her new Revel Cosmetics makeup line undertaking, Phattitude Collection. The purple liquid lipstick fittingly named “Options” will be available through the collection as well and perfect to throw on for the video’s pressing message: there’s more where he came from.
