Troy Ave Is Calling Himself the New Tupac

“N***a, it’s the second coming of Tupac — it’s new Pac."

At some point in the highly regarded careers of some rap artists, the inevitable Tupac comparison surfaces.

But when Troy Ave marked his similarity to the late, great rap idol during his Breakfast Club interview, the Brooklyn rap star’s sentiment still comes with a bit of astonishment.

Suited in a bulletproof vest, an ensemble choice he’s selected following a shooting incident that left him with a grazed head and wounded shoulder from bullets, Troy discussed the bolstering street credit he’s gained. Mentioning that his lifestyle and clout have changed following the nearly fatal shootings with his name attached, he likened his arrival on the scene to Pac’s return.

“N***a, it’s the second coming of Tupac — it’s new Pac,” he said. “I go do shows, n***a, everything’s different. The handshakes are different, the [women that suck a n***a d**k] different. Everything’s different.”

Troy’s first public shooting occurred in May 2016 at New York’s Irving Plaza, where his longtime friend and bodyguard Ronald McPhatter was fatally shot and Troy suffered an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg. Just seven months later, the “Chuck Norris” rapper suffered additional wounds from a shooting attack on Christmas Day while sitting in his Maserati. After Charlamagne asked him how he’d avoid going out like Pac, who was fatally shot and killed in 1996, Troy’s answer was simple enough: stay blessed and cautious.

Check out the full interview of Troy, in which he speaks on his Pac comparison and the shootings, below.
