STREAM EXCLUSIVE ORIGINALS

Yeah, So... Miley Cyrus Did A Cover Of 'Bodak Yellow'

Cardi B's track is taking over late-night TV.

As “Bodak Yellow” enters its second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, an unlikely artist decided to perform their own rendition of the rap track on late-night television. Miley Cryus joined The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she gave Cardi B’s single a pop twist, and it was pretty interesting to say the least.

It wasn’t exactly Miley’s idea to remix the song. On the late-night show, Miley and host Jimmy Fallon played a quick game called the “Musical Genre Challenge,” where each contestant was instructed to sing a popular track in the form of another genre. And after the music genre generator landed on “Bodak Yellow” and pop, Miley had no other choice but to give it her best shot.

In a short video clip taken from the show, Miley was seen belting out the lyrics to Cardi B’s song with a slower and softer flow as The Roots band played instrumentals in the background. As she got deeper into the song, she then stood up swaying back and forth.

OK, so Miley’s version doesn’t come anywhere close to the original track, which went platinum at the end of Sept. 2017. But to our surprise, the internet didn’t exactly hate it. While Miley fans asked for her to release the official remix, others simply stated that she didn’t completely butcher it.

It’s kind of interesting to see Miley have so much fun singing the rap song, especially since she previously suggested that the genre was too misogynistic despite her deep involvement with various producers and artists in the industry. But following media backlash in May 2017, the pop singer released a statement saying that she has “always and will continue to love and celebrate hip hop."

“Bodak Yellow” should never become a pop song, but it’s great to see Cardi and her track getting so much love, even on TV. Check out Miley’s cover below.
