R&B Artists Long Overdue for a New Album

Fans have waited long enough to hear from these performers.

Tyrese - After a long five years, R&B singer Tyrese finally decides to take a break from acting and promoting his new self-help book How to Get Out of Your Own to get back to why we fell in love with him in the first place. The Compton native's forthcoming album, Open Invitation, set to drop later this year, will be his first release since Alter Ego dropped in 2006.(Photo: Courtesy of J Records)

Brandy - With the lawsuits, breakups, and other drama, it's no wonder Brandy hasn't dropped a new project since her 2008 effort Human. However, she hasn't ruled out a comeback. The R&B singer recently told BET.com that her upcoming album will be her "last opportunity" and that she's bringing everything she has to this project. We sure hope so.(Photo: Courtesy of Epic Records)

India.Arie - Once at the forefront of the neo-soul movement, India.Arie has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. However, the four-time Grammy-Award winner hasn't put out any projects since her Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics in 2009. Janet Jackson - It's unclear when Janet Jackson will put out another album, especially since she's the one who ended her relationship with her label Island Records after openly stating dissatisfaction with their promotion of her last release, 2008's Discipline.(Photo: Courtesy of Island Records)

Amerie - Although Amerie released her last project, In Love & War, in late 2009, it wasn't very commercially successful. Granted, it was Amerie's first release since she'd left Columbia Records and formed her own label, Feenix Rising, and it kind of went under the radar. Hopefully her Cymatika Vol. 1 LP, set for release next year, will make up for lost time.(Photo: Courtesy of Def Jam Records)

Heather Headley - Although Grammy Award-winning vocalist Heather Headley released an album, Audience of One, in 2009, it wasn't what fans of her 2006 album In My Mind were used to. Audience of One, released through EMI Gospel, was a compilation of gospel covers. Hopefully, she'll get back to singing R&B and soul soon.(Photo: Courtesy of EMI Gospel Records)

Anthony Hamilton - Anthony Hamilton hasn't made a peep since he dropped his gold-selling album The Point of It All in 2008. The soulful singer has been in the game since 1995 in various positions (like singing backup for Tupac and Eve); hopefully he isn't too worn out to make another album.(Photo: Courtesy of Arista Records)

Mario - It's been a couple years since Mario released his last album, 2009's D.N.A., and it's definitely time for a follow-up. The R&B singer mentioned in interviews that he plans to do a project that focuses more on club bangers than the traditional R&B songs we're used to hearing from him. If this means a lot more songs like his "Break Up," featuring Sean Garrett and Gucci Mane, then we're all in!(Photo: Courtesy of J Records)

Justin Timberlake - Although we loved JT's roles in Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits and can't wait to see him in his upcoming film In Time, we also can't wait for him to release another album. The singer-turned-actor hasn't put out any music since FutureSex/LoveSounds in 2006, which is downright unfair to fans! Rumor has it that he's back in the studio working on the long-awaited follow-up. (Photo: Courtesy of Jive Records)

Carl Thomas - In 2007, Carl Thomas dropped his third and last studio album, So Much Better. It wasn't exactly his platinum-selling debut album, Emotional, but it kept fans satisfied until, well, there hasn't been a follow-up and fans are actually getting a little impatient now. Angie Stone - Angie Stone impressed fans with her soulful voice, wooed the men over with her single "Brotha," got the sisters on her side with almost every other song and then left them all hanging after the release of Unexpected in 2009. (Photo: Courtesy of Stax Records)
