1974's Natty Dread was Marley's first album without Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, both legends in their own right. But "Bend Down Low," a feel-good mix of love song and religious finger-wagging, shows one advantage of his new backup singers, the I-Threes, one of whom was his wife, Rita: Not only did they have beautiful voices, but they gave his songs a certain kind of welcoming warmth that only female vocalists can provide.
