Working Relationship: When Bandmates Date

Wyclef and Lauryn aren't the first to mix love and music.

Working Relationship: When Bandmates Date - We all know it's a bad idea to date co-workers, right? Well, all of us except musicians. Wyclef Jean's autobiography, Purpose, which dropped today, September 18, is making waves for his claim that the Fugees broke up because Lauryn Hill falsely told him that her first-born son, Zion, was his. But whatever the reason for the group's 1997 split, it was an expensive one: They never recorded a follow-up to their diamond-selling 1996 album The Score. But Wyclef and Lauryn aren't the first to mix love and music. Read on to check out other bandmates who dated, loved, married and more.   (Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images)

City High - It's almost makes too much sense that Wyclef signed rap/R&B trio City High to his Booga Basement label: They're the one group who's inner romances are even more complicated and dramatic than those of the Fugees. Claudette Ortiz initially dated bandmate Robby Pardlo when the group formed (she later claimed he was emotionally abusive). Ortiz eventually left him for the other member of City High, Ryan Toby, who she married in 2004. Pardlo recounted the drama — and his subsequent turn to the bottle — on an episode of Intervention. Ortiz and Toby are no longer together. (Photo: Amanda Edwards/Getty Images)

That same year, Valerie Simpson and Nick Ashford joined the songwritng staff of Motown Records. (Photo: Ebet Roberts/Getty Images)

Bob and Rita Marley - Being the woman behind the man seems these days like an antiquated notion from a bygone era, but Rita Marley took it to heart. The iconic reggae star's wife explained why she stood by her cheating man in her 2004 memoir: "Just because he cheated on me doesn’t mean he was a bad husband. He always provided for me, always gave me anything I wanted. But he was corrupted by show business, by the girls that would throw themselves at him." Don't hate the playa, hate the game?
