Angel Haze - Between the successes of Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks, the past few years have been a windfall for the once endangered female MC, but Angel Haze still stands out from the pack. The Detroit-raised rapper and singer conquered 2012 with two widely praised mixtapes last year, Reservation and Classick, a handful of slick videos, and an ice-cold verse at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher. 2013 better watch out.(Photo: John Ricard / BET)

2. She's Coming Up — Quick - Angel Haze's career is rising at an exponential rate. Just three weeks after releasing her first mixtape, Reservation, this past summer, she landed a deal with Universal Republic. Virtually unknown a year ago, she now finds herself being mentioned in the same sentence as Lauryn Hill and Nicki Minaj. (Photo: John Ricard / BET)

3. She's Repping for the Res - Angel Haze is half Cherokee, and proud of it — she evens speaks the language fluently. She repped her roots with the name of her mixtape, Reservation.(Photo: John Ricard / BET)

4. She's Got a Backstory - Angel Haze's Native American background — sorely underrepresented in rap thus far — isn't the only interesting twist in her biography. She was studying neurobiology at Penn State before she went into music. She's bisexual and not afraid to talk about it. She was sexually abused as a child and isn't afraid to talk about that, either (more on that later). Angel definitely has a story to tell. (Photo: Derek Reed / Picture Group)

5. She's Paving Her Own Lane - Many have tried to lazily compare Angel Haze to other female rappers: Like Lauryn Hill, she can rap and sing; like Azealia Banks, she's bisexual and genre-bending. But, with her compelling story, raw vulnerability and razor-sharp, multisyllabic bars, Angel has her own vision. (Photo: John Ricard / BET)

6. She Destroyed the Cypher - Folks who watched the BET Hip Hop Awards already know: Angel Haze absolutely murdered her verse in the Cypher, more than holding her own next to more established MCs A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$ and Danny Glover. (Photo: Derek Reed / Picture Group)

7. She Puts It All Out There - Angel Haze is making major noise with "Cleaning Out My Closet," a raw standout from her new mixtape Classick. Over the instrumental for the Eminem song of the same title, Angel raps vividly about her sexual abuse as a child and the problems it's caused throughout her life — suicidal thoughts, an eating disorder and much more. 8. Her Videos Are Off the Wall - Angel Haze has an eye. Her clip for "Werkin Girls" features kidnappings, Freddy Krueger gloves and aluminum-foil ski masks. Her video for "New York" was compellingly bizarre, scary and sexual — which may be why it's been scrubbed from the Web.    (Photo: Paras Griffin/Landov)

9. She Can Rap Her Butt Off - Most important, Angel Haze can Rap. With a capital R. Check the infectious swagger of "Werkin Girls," or the breathless rhyme patterns of "New York" or the confidence of "Gossip Folks" — Angel is a lot more than just a pretty face and a buzzworthy bio. 10. It's Bigger Than Rap, Though - Her rapping skills are still miles ahead, but Angel Haze shows major potential as a singer on both of her mixtapes, Classick and Reservation. And expect to hear a lot more singing and musical excursions that go way beyond rap soon. "I’m shaping myself up for the crossover...I am taking vocal lessons and guitar lessons," she told The New York Times recently. "I want to be an artist you cannot categorize at all. You can’t put a box around me. You can’t put anything around me." (Photo: John Ricard / BET)
