Nas, Illmatic - The April 19 release date of Nas’s Illmatic is a landmark day in the history of American music. The album's introspective storyline detailing life in the mean, grimey streets of Queensbridge, New York, serves not only as the foundation of his living legend status, but also as a hip hop blueprint. With the assistance of jazz- and soul-influenced producers such as Large Professor, Pete Rock and DJ Premier, Nas's impact on society as a vivid storyteller with a profound take on linguistics was imprinted in every track from "It Ain't Hard to Tell" to "The World Is Yours." And it influenced the works of Jay Z, Common, Noreaga and Ghostface Killah, emboldening them to modify their delivery, opting for a slowed down, enunciated flow driven by a relaxed, poetic tongue.(Photo: Columbia Records)

Reissue of Nas' Illmatic - Help your favorite hip hop head take a trip down memory lane. Earlier this month, golden-era hip hop e-retailer specialists Get On Down released two box sets commemorating Nas' landmark 1994 debut: a vinyl version with full lyric insert, and a gold CD edition featuring remastered audio, which comes with a gold plaque and is housed in cherrywood case. Each package also features a 48-page full-color, hardcover book with additional artwork and liner notes, a reproduction of the original '94 press release for Illmatic; two rare promo photos; and a poster with the album's lyrics printed on back. Represent, indeed. (Photo: Columbia Records)

Dr. Dre's The Chronic: Where Are They Now? - The Chronic was a turning point. One of the best and most influential albums ever made, it changed music forever when it dropped 20 years ago on Dec. 15, 1992, introducing G-funk, shattering sales records and birthing several new stars — Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and of course, Dr. Dre himself. And although Dre's face adorns the classic cover, it was truly a group effort, with a rotating crew of guest rappers, ghost-writers and co-producers giving their all. Many of them went on to have their own amazing careers; others weren't so lucky. Here, two decades later, we catch up with the team of heavy hitters that made The Chronic a classic. —Alex Gale   (Photo: Death Row Records)

The Chronic Gift Set - Dr. Dre's classic solo debut, The Chronic, celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this month. Though there wasn't a flossy reissue (we blame Suge, somehow), you can make your own box set for your favorite G-funk afficionado: The Chronic on CD, some Zig-Zag rolling papers, which inspired the album's cover, and a nice flip lighter. And maybe a cellophane baggy of oregano if you really want to round out the concept. (Photo: Death Row Records)
