N.W.A made Dr. Dre a star, but The Chronic made him a legend. Though his work pace slowed considerably after this album, almost everything he's done in the two decades since has only added to his stellar track record: dropping his sophomore LP, The Chronic 2001, selling his Beats by Dre headphone company for $300 million and launching the careers of Snoop, Eminem, 50 Cent, Game and Kendrick Lamar. He's presently working on his third album, Detox, rap's holy grail. But even if Detox never hits the streets, and even if it fails to live up the sky-high expectations, The Chronic has forever enshrined Dre's name in the hip hop history books.
