Karrine Steffans Confessions of a Video Vixen - The late '90s and early 2000s were rife with highly sexualized and mysogynistic music videos, with the standout girl usually becoming a word-of-mouth sensation. One of those women was Karrine "Superhead" Steffans, who chronicled her life's journey in what set the template for all hip hop confessional books.   (Photo: Amistad Publishing)

Confessions of a Video Vixen by Karrine Steffans  - This memoir caused a major stir — and practically birthed the genre of hip hop tell-alls — when it dropped in 2005. In the book, former video model Karrine Steffans, nicknamed "Superhead" in numerous rap songs, detailed her alleged domestic abuse at the hands of Kool G Rap, as well as sexual relations with Jay Z, Ja Rule, DMX, Bobby Brown and others. She later said much of the book had been "fabricated." (Photo: Amistad Publishing)

Carmen Bryan It's No Secret - Carmen Bryan is best known for being Nas' first baby mother and having an affair with his one-time rival Jay-Z, which exacerbated their brewing beef in 2000. Though the affair was kept a secret, Nas came forward about it after Jay-Z took a shot at him in "Takeover" and alluded to it in the verse "you know who did you know what with you know who." With the two New York rap legends at each other's throats, Carmen did the only logical thing that anyone in her position would do: she wrote a tell-all book about it. Oddly enough, the book was finally released years after the two emcees stopped feuding. (Photo: VH-1 Publishing)

Prodigy My Infamous Life - While serving three years for a weapons charge, Prodigy of Mobb Deep took it upon himself to pick up the pen and write his autobiography — a bold move considering most rappers shy away from revealing too much about their personal lives. Prodigy took the opportunity to explain his upbringing, how his father's erratic behavior affected him and ultimately what led to his incarceration. In between the lines, he sheds light on his famous rap beefs (most notably the one with Jay-Z), which rappers get the side eye and his interactions with other Queens street legends.(Photo: Touchstone Publishing)
