Although Jay-Z did not begin his professional career until adulthood, the life he lived as a child growing up in Marcy certainly haunts much of his music. For example, on his sophomore album, In My Lifetime Vol. 1, he admitted to shooting his older brother who was "high off more than w--d." He was just 12 years old. His brother survived and didn't press charges.
