Posted July 17, 2007 -- NBC has scooped up Isaiah Washington. The fired "Grey's Anatomy" actor will make a five-episode guest appearance on "Bionic Woman" this fall, and he's also scored a development deal to star in a project he pitched to the network for next year, reports USA Today.
Katherine Pope, president of NBC's Universal Media Studios, says that despite the public baggage, Washington is "a brilliant actor," and she believes viewers will re-embrace him. "I think people watch characters on TV, not personalities" in the news, she says.
ABC fired Washington from his "Grey's" role as Dr. Preston Burke after his use of an anti-gay slur sparked controversy. He eventually said his sorries, went to counseling and made amends with gay rights organizations. The network let him go, anyway.
So he's done with doctors for now. On Bionic Woman, a remake of the 1970s hit, Washington plays an outsider -- with a good or bad agenda -- who is introduced early in the series. Stay tuned.
