SHORT CUTS: Bassett Takes "Nothing But the Truth"

Posted Oct. 22, 2007 -- Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Yari Film Group's "Nothing but the Truth," a thriller from writer-director Rod Lurie. Bassett will portray the editor-in-chief at a Washington-based daily newspaper where one of her reporters has outed a CIA agent in a piece and been imprisoned for refusing to reveal her source. Wyle plays the paper's inhouse counsel.

The cast also includes Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Alan Alda, Vera Farmiga, Harry Lennix, David Schwimmer and Noah Wyle. Production began in Memphis last month.

Wright to Play Muddy Waters

Jeffrey Wright has been tapped to play blues legend Muddy Waters in the upcoming Sony/BMG film "Cadillac Man," according to Comingsoon.net.

Darnell Martin ("Their Eyes Were Watching God") writes and directs the film, which follows the rise and fall of Chess Records, the label which launched the career of Waters as well as Etta James and Chuck Berry. Matt Dillon is signed on to play Leonard Chess, who co-founded the label with his brother Phil. Filming is set to begin in January in New Jersey and Chicago.
