Following its Broadway success, a film version of Laurence Fishburne’s performance in the one-man play Thurgood, will premiere on HBO on Thursday, Feb. 24.

Fishburne will play the legendary civil rights leader, who, through a present-day narration, revisits key turning points in his life and career—from his life growing up in Baltimore to winning the landmark civil rights case, Brown vs’ Board of Education.

Directed by Emmy Award winner Michael Stevens, the project was performed live at the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theatre in Washington, DC.

For the Broadway production of Thurgood, which ended its limited engagement in 2008, Fishburne was nominated for a Tony Award.

The film airs at 9pm (ET) with encore presentations at 3:55am (ET) and Feb. 27 at 11:45am (ET).
