Taraji P. Henson Lands Lead in New CBS Drama
Though J.J. Abrams failed with casting Black leads in his NBC series, Undercovers, that doesn’t mean he’s not willing to try it again. New York magazine’s Vulture blog reports that Academy Award-nominated actress, Taraji P. Henson, has been cast as the female lead for Abrams’ new CBS drama, Person of Interest.
Henson will play the role of female detective, Carter. The show will chronicle the story of an ex-CIA agent who is recruited by a crazy billionaire to help fight crime in New York City.
Recently, I read an article asking why are all of the Black film actors being sent to television in order to find steady work. The issue was that despite television producing increasingly great shows – particularly dramas – it’s still considered not as worthy as film projects.
So, I get that but at the same time we need a presence on network TV and perhaps if Black actors find more success there then the film industry will buy a clue. I hope Taraji lands another Oscar-worthy film role, but in the meantime I’m excited to see her in this new series.
