Actress Angela Bassett is joining the parade of movie actors heading to TV as she is confirmed as a lead in ABC’s drama pilot Identity.
Based on a British TV show, this action series centers on an elite police unit assembled to fight the growing epidemic of identity-related crime. Bassett will play Martha, the special agent heading the FBI’s Identity Crimes Unit. A graduate of Vassar, Martha is a Bronx-hardened tech wiz determined to see her division succeed using “sophisticated technology combined with good old fashion investigative methods.”
According to Deadline.com, this is yet another step in Bassett’s relationship with ABC, ABC Studios and producer Mark Gordon. She was originally set to star in another ABC drama, One Police Plaza, which was specifically developed for her. For that project she was slated to play another top New York cop, the city's first female commissioner.
Bassett most recently co-starred on the final season of ER. She will be starring in the upcoming films Jumping the Broom and Green Lantern.
