Usher's former wife reflects on seeking on the cosmetic operation that nearly killed her.
Two years ago, Usher rushed to be at the side of his then wife Tameka when she faced life- threatening complications from plastic surgery in Brazil.
Now, the renowned stylist and budding businesswoman has opened up about what she calls “a really dumb decision” in her cover story with Sister 2 Sister magazine.
Before heading on the trip, which she took in response to frustrations about her marriage, Tameka said: “I sent the children to [Usher] ... I was like, ‘You deal with them.’ You know? ‘You want to be M.I.A. for the most part? You deal with them.’”
While there, Tameka says her Brazilian nanny (and travel companion) told her about the plastic surgery industry in her home country—describing it as “popular here and inexpensive.” During the liposuction procedure on her stomach, she went into cardiac arrest while getting anesthesia.
Looking back, Tameka said, “It was dumb, because it wasn’t nothing a few crunches and another month wouldn’t have gotten off. I never had the surgery.”
Usher’s now ex-wife is now currently managing her Atlanta boutiques, Estella and Estella Home, along with a kids recreational center, Kangazoom.
