Word on the street is that his rumored new girlfriend is the reason why he’s letting go of some of his longtime team members.
The rumor mill is working overtime with chatter about Usher. Reports have swirled for years that the R&B crooner has been getting his date on with an older woman, Grace Miguel, but now word on the street is that she’s telling him to fire his longtime staff members.
The New York Post has now stepped in with claims that Miguel, a 43-year-old former Def Jam executive who acts as Usher’s co-manager and stylist, is trying to convince Usher to clear out his staff including stylists, choreographers and tour managers and replace them with her people.
The first alleged victim: Mark Cheatham of CAA, who has worked with Usher as his agent since the beginning of the singer’s career, but has recently stopped listing him as a client. Cheatham wouldn’t back up the claims and only noted that he’s been on great terms with Usher.
However, if the news is true, this wouldn’t be the first time Usher has been accused of firing his staff because of a lover’s influence. In 2007 he married Tameka Foster, who also acted as his stylist, and following their nuptials, he let go of his mother and manager Jonetta Patton. Reports claimed that he gave his momager the boot because she wasn’t getting along with his wife. Of course that marriage only lasted for two years.
