J-Lo says she chose American Idol because it was an "institution."
Before she decided to become a judge on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez entertained the idea of aiding Simon Cowell in his efforts to launch a new musical franchise in the U.S.
In a recent interview, J.Lo says she was in talks to join the forthcoming U.S. edition of the music competition series, The X Factor, but opted in favor of joining the Idol judging cast. She told Britain’s Daily Star: "We did talk about The X Factor for a little bit. But at the end of the day, thinking about my career and everything that was going on, when the opportunity to do Idol came along, it seemed a better fit. Idol has been a show for so many years. It's an institution. To be involved in something like that felt really great."
Though her appearance on the show has helped revive her career in a big way, she’s not sure if she will sign on for another season. Jennifer added, “I'm taking it day by day at the moment and we'll see what happens. I've been having a great time, I can't lie. I'm really enjoying it and having fun and enjoying working with the contestants."
Although Simon Cowell has yet to unveil his other two judges, he did announce that Mariah Carey will have a role on X-Factor.
