The mother of Lamar Odom's children says she turned down a spin-off offer from producers of Basketball Wives.
Liza Morales, the mother of Lamar Odom’s children, says she’s in talks with various literary agents about doing a book that depicts what it’s really like to be romantically involved with a star athlete.
Speaking with the New York Daily News about the project, Morales says her book “shows the lifestyle from the inside.” She added, "Since our society is obsessed with celebrity, the book gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the real reality."
The book is a roman à clef, a novel in which actual persons and events are fictionalized. A source who has read Morales’ manuscript says you can clearly tell Odom is the person behind the character.
The 32-year-old Morales split with Odom in 2008. Morales said the death of their 7-month-old son, Jayden, from sudden infant death syndrome in 2006 served as a “real wake-up call” when, according to Morales, Odom essentially left her alone to grieve with their two other kids, Destiny and Lamar Jr.
In 2009, Odom married Khloé Kardashian, whom he dated for a month.
Morales noted Odom still provides for their children financially, but she doesn’t want to rely on his checks to survive. She added that in addition to the novel, she’s working on a clothing line. Morales also says she has been approached by producers of VH1’s Basketball Wives to do an L.A.-based spin-off. However, she said “it just wasn’t for me.” Instead, she chooses to write, citing the “euphoric” feeling she gets from it.
