Denzel Washington's Wife Returns to Stage

Denzel Washington’s wife, Pauletta Washington, is starring in the off Broadway play Desperate Writers. For Pauletta, it’s a big get to secure a starring role in a theater production after such a lengthy break from acting. Pauletta took a 30 year break from performing so that she could devote her full attention to her children.

While promoting her new play, Pauletta gave an interview to Theatermania.com. When asked if she had any regrets about being a stay-at-home mom, she responded, “I feel like the ‘part’ of being mom to these four incredible children outweighed all of the acting parts that I could have missed.” She added, “To be honest, it was a completely selfish thing, because I wanted to be the one to see my children walk and talk and do all the first things before anybody else.”

With each of her children now in adulthood, Pauletta announced a return to acting earlier in the year. She started with a role in the play Love, Loss and What I Wore before landing her current role. The play opens on June 6 at the Union Square Theater in New York City.

As for whether we’ll ever see a play starring Pauletta and Denzel, don’t bet on it. Pauletta said, “I think our relationship has worked so well because he has his world, I have my world, and then we can bring the worlds together.”
