This Day in Film: Big Momma’s House

BET.com celebrates the anniversary of the legendary Martin Lawrence movie

Eleven years ago today Martin Lawrence’s Big Momma’s House opened in theaters nationwide.  The cast included Nia Long, Anthony Anderson, Tichina Arnold, Cedric the Entertainer and Terrence Howard. Lawrence played an undercover cop who disguised himself as Big Momma—the grandmother of Long’s character, who is the ex-girlfriend of a fugitive in jail for murder and robbery.

Big Momma’s House was the surprise hit of the summer of 2000. The film brought in over $27 million opening weekend and would eventually gross $117 million. The flick delivered a sequel six years later and the third installment was released earlier this year.
