Laker's Player Will Change His Name to World Peace

Will Ron Artest's new name influence global politics? Maybe...

Ron Artest, a player for the LA Lakers, filed a petition to legally change his name to Metta World Peace. TMZ acquired the official court documents and Artest has been on Twitter explaining a little about the name.

"Metta is a Pali word meaning loving-kindness. Metta chanting is the radiation of loving-kindness towards all beings: Super dope!!!"

World Peace, we assume, retains it's typical definition. It's hard to judge just how serious Artest/World Peace is about this change. Besides his 12-year NBA career, he's also a comedian, with scheduled shows at Carolines in New York on July 15 and 16.

However, we're still waiting for a full explanation by the baller comedian. According to his twitter one is coming very soon:

"So many opinions!! I'll be on Ronartest.com shortly giving reason for name!! No need to ruffle your feathers . Relax confused people. Lol"

Until then the jury's still out as to the full reason for the change. But so far it is helping the world to know his name, or, names.
