British actor expresses interest in playing the super hero.
You can throw in another name vying for the chance to play Luke Cage for Marvel Studios. While promoting his latest movie, Ghost Rider, at Comic-Con, actor Idris Elba says he's interested in the highly sought after role. When asked if he wanted to participate in any other comic-book projects, Elba said after a deep breath and noted pause, “Luke Cage—we just need to know that you want that."
Another actor wanting the part is Tyrese Gibson. He was recently quoted saying, “I’ve been interested in that project and have been keeping my eyes on it for years… Marvel just has to make Luke Cage a priority. Everybody wants to see Luke Cage. I got my headband ready, my muscles are ready, and I’m ready for Luke Cage.”
The other person hoping to play the popular super hero is Isaiah Mustafa. The star of the successful Old Spice ads has been actively campaigning to win the race, shooting a short video of himself as Cage. Of the three men in pursuit of the role, Elba may have the best chance at netting the part. Shadow and Act confirms that Elba already has a multi-picture deal in place with Marvel, potentially placing him first in line to star in the anticipated movie.
