Catching Up With Sharon Leal

Making the Emmy gift-suite rounds, she reveals her new movie role.

In the days leading up to award shows, gifting lounges pop up all over Hollywood that shower celebrities with free stuff, everything from jewelry and vacations to home goods, skincare and cosmetics. Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls, Hellcats, Boston Public) was invited to several pre-Emmy events, including the Tic Tac Mints/GBK gift lounge. She revealed she’d just returned from the New Orleans set of a movie called On the Seventh Day, in which she stars with Blair Underwood. “It’s a suspense thriller. We play husband and wife and we’re searching for our missing daughter. It was pretty intense,” said the actress about the film, which also stars Pam Grier and Nicole Beharie.

Leal had just arrived at the GBK suite and was hoping to find accessories to wear to Emmy parties and some that were kid-friendly. “I have a ten-year-old,” she explained. Her favorite styles this season? “I stick to the classics, but I like to have a bit of fun and I love that leopard is in again,” she said. “But I kind of stay true to what’s always been around. I finally got a tailor recently to make sure everything fits well.”

Her drawers and cabinets are filled with great things she’s received at gifting suites, she said. “You know you’re getting older when you’re excited about the kitchen appliances, blenders and things like that. But I’ve gotten great jewelry. I had to clean out my closet because I have bags and bags of skincare that I never got around to using,” she admitted. “But I always like getting introduced to new products.”
