Make room, Uma Thurman. Quentin Tarantino has a new muse. Deadline.com reports that Kerry Washington has landed the coveted lead role in Tarantino's upcoming film Django Unchained. The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and others.

Washington will play Broomhilda, the long-suffering slave wife of Django (Foxx), who is freed by a bounty hunter (Waltz) and sets upon a mission to be reunited with her. It leads to a confrontation in Candyland, a ranch owned by the notorious Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

According to Deadline, Washington was Tarantino's first choice for the plum role, but embarked on a long search for a new face before coming back around to his original instinct.

As for the Ray star, she'll next be seen in The Details, starring Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks and We the Peeples with Craig Robinson and David Alan Grier.
