Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy is rumored to be in the running to play the former mayor of Washington, D.C., Marion Barry, in a biopic from HBO. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is in the works with Spike Lee attached as director.

Marion Barry was the mayor of D.C. from 1979 to 1991. In January of 1990, Barry was famously caught on camera smoking crack cocaine. He was arrested on drug charges and served six months in prison. Nonetheless, Barry would become mayor of D.C. again from 1995 to 1999. 

If there is anyone who has the chops to play Barry, it would be Eddie Murphy. We only wish he would get back to hosting the Oscars!
