Items in Michael Jackson’s Home Sell for Almost $1 Million

Fresh off the heels of the Conrad Murray trial, in which he was sentenced to four years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, personal items from Michael Jackson’s home the day he died in 2009 were auctioned off this past Saturday.

The Associated Press reports an all-day sale was held by Julien's Auctions, which featured items from the mansion Jackson rented. A kitchen chalkboard on which the children wrote, "I love daddy" reportedly went for $5,000. An armoire, which also had a self-written note from Jackson to himself on the mirror, fetched $25,750. The rug from underneath his bed sold for $15,360

Not everything was allowed to go to the biggest bidder, as the family did request certain restrictions. They reportedly asked Julien’s Auctions not to sell the headboard that was attached to the bed he died in.

The auctioneer recreated the inside of Jackson’s Beverly Hills home and invited fans to pay tribute in a space that was made to resemble his bedroom. The AP reports Julien as saying, "Michael Jackson has the greatest fans in the world. They came out every day this week to bring gifts. It's unlike anything we've ever seen as it relates to a celebrity and their fans."

The company says they will give all tribute items to Katherine Jackson and the children.
