Common will get to keep his day job for a little bit longer. AMC has renewed his series Hell on Wheels for a second season. The Western, about the building of the first transcontinental railroad in America, was the second-highest rated series on the network during its freshman season, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The drama joins Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Killing and Walking Dead as series that made it past their first season on the network. The season one finale of Hell on Wheels airs on January 15.

Common just released his tenth studio album, The Dreamer/The Believer, on Tuesday and has two films set for release in 2012: indie drama LUV, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and The Odd Life of Timothy Green, co-starring Jennifer Garner.
