Mary J. Blige Upset Over Oscar Snub

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul is “saddened” to be left out of Hollywood’s big night.

It's official: Mary J. Blige thinks the Oscars aren't showing her any real love.

When the nominees for the 84th Annual Academy Awards were announced, Blige and her song “Living Proof” from the film The Help didn't make the cut.

The single appeared to be a frontrunner in the Best Original Song category, especially because the Academy usually nominates up to five original songs. But, to the shock of many and Mary herself, this year’s Oscar race only acknowledged two singles — from the children's films Rio and The Muppets.

Blige immediately took to Twitter to grieve being passed over. She wrote, “I'm so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…" The singer later retweeted the numerous disappointed reactions she received from fans.

But the box office hit The Help did manage to score several major nominations, including Viola Davis for Best Actress and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture.
