When we caught up with her at QVC's pre-Oscar party, Beverly Johnson looked as gorgeous as she did when she graced magazine covers as the fist Black supermodel.  She talked about her role in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, now in theaters, and an upcoming reality series for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network.

“It was so much fun,” she said of filming the movie in Atlanta, praising co-stars Phylicia Rashad, “beautiful and smart” Gabrielle Union, who plays her daughter, and director-co-star Perry, calling him “such a gentleman.” As Jonson wrapped up her last day on the set, Perry stopped work to personally escort her to her car and thank her. “That’s never happened in 30 years,” she said.

Her OWN series Beverly’s Full House, due to premiere March 31 and run for eight weeks, will follow her relationship with her daughter Anansa and her new role as grandmother to seven-month-old Ava. “I’m so in love, it’s crazy,” she raved about being a grandma.  She’d met with Winfrey to pitch several show ideas, and was surprised to find that Oprah was interested in the reality show. Johnson agreed to do it because Winfrey “has such good production and I trusted her.”  Having the cameras around for five months “takes a little time to get used to. It was intense at first,” she admitted. “But after a while you forget about it. It worked out well.”
