There is another generation of Norwoods waiting in the wings to tackle the entertainment industry, but Brandy says that her 9-year-old daughter, Sy’rai, will have to put those dreams on ice — for now.
“It’s crazy because she definitely has the acting and singing bug. But I’ve been like, ‘Look little chick, wait a minute, we’re gonna wait and do it later on.’ If that’s her true purpose it will be revealed to me very soon," the star of The Game tells BET.com.
But the former star of Moesha, whose mom is child star manager Sonja Norwood and whose brother is singer and reality TV star Ray J, says there’s a good reason why she wants to start Sy’rai out in showbiz's slow lane.
“This business can change you if you’re not strong,” says Brandy. “I just want to make sure I’m doing what I’m supposed to do before she gets into the business. I want to protect her as much as possible — that’s my job.”
And that extends to keeping her daughter out of the prying reality TV show camera spotlight. Unlike most reality stars whose offsprings were born ready for their close-ups, Brandy, who appeared on Dancing With the Stars and starred on Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business has noticeably kept Sy’rai on the cutting room floor.
“That was me not wanting to expose her too much, and trying to give her as much as a normal life as possible,” she adds. “That was very important to me and her father.”
