Mario Van Peebles gives a revealing look at contemporary youth culture with We the Party, a coming-of-age story that follows five high school friends growing up in Los Angeles during America’s first Black presidency.

Set amid the latest trends in music, dance and fashion, the film revisits familiar themes through the adventures of the crew such as romance, sex, bullies and finding themselves. “Teenagers are at the center of a seismic cultural shift,” Van Peebles said. “Their world is changing fast, from their music to their dancing, jerking, twerking, skateboarding, dating and facebooking. Thug life is old school now and, for some, smart is the new gangsta'!”

We the Party stars Van Peebles and Michael Jai White and features music by artists including Snoop Dogg, Y.G. and the New Boyz. The film is due in theaters for limited release April 6 and a wider release on April 13.
