BET.com Exclusive Video: Backstage at the TV Land Awards
The TV Land Awards airs this weekend, and we got a chance to go backstage — and back to the '90s — to talk to some of the biggest stars of the night. BET.com's Tony Anderson caught up with actor/comedian Tommy Davidson, who was there to accept the Groundbreaking Award for In Living Color, as well as the original Fly Girls and another '90s icon, Pee Wee Herman.
We also got a few minutes with the evening's main honoree, Aretha Franklin, who will receive the Music Icon Award and perform several of her biggest hits. "She was my first influence," Davidson says of Aretha, adding that he still vividly remembers watching her perform when he was a child.
The Queen of Soul dishes to us about her upcoming projects with Clive Davis, with whom she re-signed a management contract, including two new albums. Franklin says she hopes to collaborate with Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and Ne-Yo. When asked what keeps the soul legend ticking after all these years, she replies, "the love of music."
Check out more scoop including Davidson's take on reuniting with the In Living Color cast in the video above.
The TV Land Awards will air on Sunday, April 29 at 9pm ET/PT.
