Samuel L. Jackson stars as Nick Fury in the superhero epic The Avengers. And even though he’s not sporting any powers of his own, Jackson probably has the most important job in the film: assembling Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to save the world.
For Jackson, the role of Nick Fury has had a life of its own. The character appears in a total of nine films (including all the Marvel comics turned superhero movies), plus Marvel changed Nick Fury’s likeness to Jackson’s. So you could say Jackson has now forever earned a place in fanboy and fangirl cinematic history.
“It helps to know you’re going to be in a set of films as iconic as those [The Avengers, Star Wars prequels],” says Jackson. “I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been in roles that people remember and like and continue to talk about.”
