Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose Begin Shooting Half a Yellow Sun

Chiwetel Ejiofor and John Boyega round out cast of the novel adaptation.

The film adaptation of prize-winning novel Half a Yellow Sun is underway in Calabar, Nigeria. Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Attack the Block breakout star John Boyega and Chiwetel Ejiofor will star in the epic love story.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the story weaves together the lives of four people swept up in the turbulence of war in the 1960s, centering on Olanna (Newton) and Kainene (Rose), glamorous twins from a wealthy Nigerian family who return to the African country after going to school in England. The twins then become embroiled in the Nigerian civil war.

The British thespians are joined by several Nigerian actors for the ensemble cast.
