Tim Story

If sheer box office receipts could place a Black director on Hollywood’s A-list, Tim Story could be the one.

According to estimations by Shadow and Act, the director of the hugely successful Think Like a Man has topped the omnipotent Tyler Perry as the highest grossing director in Hollywood.

Thanks to his helming two relatively successful Fantastic Four movies, along with Black films like Barbershop, Taxi and the less successful, straight-to-DVD Hurricane Season, the director’s projects have grossed, collectively, close to $900 million.

Perry’s films have grossed more than $500 million worldwide.

Will this mean Story, having directed major Hollywood films, will be able to enter Hollywood’s elite class of directors? That will remain to be seen.
