Fans of the dark detective series Luther are about to get a big dose of their favorite sleuth on the silver screen.

Luther
creator Neil Cross confirms that a film adaptation of the series is in the works. As far as a production timetable, the movie version of the critically acclaimed and award-winning hit drama series would most likely start shooting in 2013.

“We’ve got lots and lots of movie interest, and Idris [Elba] and I (are being) very careful about what kind of movie we choose to do,” Cross told Variety. “We just need to pick our offer carefully. But I’d love to do it next year.”

And Hollywood is gearing up for another sports champion biopic.

Shadow and Act is reporting that Imagine Entertainment will be producing a film on the life of worldwide soccer champion and superstar Pelé.

The film company headed by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer says their Pelé movie will be a “coming-of-age story tracing Pele’s childhood until he won his first World Cup in Sweden at the age of 17.” Principal photography is set to begin next year in Brazil, with the goal that the film will be completed and released prior to the 2014 World Cup.
