The rapper adds new roles to his growing acting résumé.
Kid Cudi is expanding his acting repertoire to include film.
Shadow and Act reports that the 28-year-old rap star has captured two roles in upcoming independent films. The first is an apocalyptic comedy titled Goodbye World, starring Adrian Grenier. Directed by Denis Henry Hennelly, the project, which just wrapped principal photography, follows a group of college friends who reunite in a Northern California town as civilization collapses.
Kid Cudi is cast as one of the college friends, an offbeat computer hacker. Other members include Kerry Bishé (Scrubs), Gaby Hoffman (Someone Like Me) and Mark Webber. No release date has been announced yet.
The other film is a thriller titled Tacoma. The “feature-length narrative thriller” centers on a real estate agent who wanted to be a dancer but is stuck in a dead-end job in Tacoma, Washington. Her only escape from the humdrum life? She begins a modern dance class at the local community center. When her dance teacher is brutally murdered in a short-sale scam gone bad, her trust is turned upside down.
Stewart Thorndike, who wrote the screenplay, is directing.
Cudi will be playing a character named Yanni, who's said to be a lover of one of the other characters.
Tacoma is currently in pre-production and scheduled to be released in 2013.
