Matt Barnes Calls Officer an Anti-Gay Slur
Yet another athlete makes the news for using an anti-gay slur. This time it’s basketball player Matt Barnes.
In a video obtained by TMZ, Barnes is being arrested by police in Manhattan Beach, California, and the Los Angeles Clippers star is extremely angry at one of the officers. As a result, Barnes shouts a gay slur at the cop, saying: "You're the f----ing f----t who followed me."
The incident occurred outside a restaurant on July 30. After Barnes and his wife, Basketball Wives star Gloria Govan, finished having dinner they went outside, where Officer David Gibbons had been waiting for two hours for Barnes to exit the restaurant.
When Barnes came outside, Gibbons informed the NBA star he was under arrest for an outstanding warrant for driving on a suspended license. Barnes asked to see the warrant and Gibbons said he'll see it when he gets to jail. Barnes then said if Gibbons didn't produce the warrant he was leaving.
When Barnes began to leave, Gibbons ordered him to stop. Before Gibbons cuffed Barnes and placed him under felony arrest for resisting an officer, the Clipper called the officer a “b---h.”
This isn’t the first time the two have come into contact. On May 19, Gibbons impounded Barnes's car because he was driving on a suspended license.
By early this morning, Barnes apologized via TMZ: "I would like to apologize for the unfortunate language I used. I know that certain words are extremely hurtful. I meant absolutely no disrespect to anyone. This comment, spoken in the heat of a difficult moment, does not accurately reflect my actual point of view."
