Taken 2 takes the cake at the box office! The action thriller, starring Liam Neeson, scored $50 million in ticket sales for a first place finish. While the sequel is not expected to best the original's B.O. numbers overall, the film did earn double what its predecessor did during its opening weekend three years ago.

Meanwhile, Hotel Transylvania, voiced by Cee Lo Green and Selena Gomez among other celebs, held steady in second place with $27 million, easily beating the weekend's other animated family film, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie. The quirky comedy fell flat with a fifth place opening and a disappointing $11.5 million in ticket sales.

Taken 2 will face stiff competition in the coming weeks from Ben Affleck's awards contender Argo, Tyler Perry's detective thriller Alex Cross and fright fest Paranormal Activity 4
