Awkward Black Girl 's Issa Rae Lands Network Sitcom Deal

Will collaborate with Shonda Rhimes on I Hate L.A. Dudes.

Issa Rae is an awkward girl no more! The internet sensation, who has built a cult following over the past two years with her web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, has landed a deal with TV super-producer Shonda Rhimes for a network sitcom.
Grey's Anatomy and Scandal showrunner Rhimes sold I Hate LA Dudes, created by Rae, to ABC. The 27-year-old rising star will write and co-produce the half-hour sitcom, but it's not clear whether she will also star.
According to Deadline.com, the comedy will center on "an aspiring journalist, new to Los Angeles, who becomes the lone female voice on a budding, male-driven internet talk show, while learning to decode the often humiliating and exasperating rules of the L.A. dating scene."
Rae, a newcomer to the Hollywood establishment, will be in good hands with Rhimes, herself a trailblazer who created some of the most popular hour-long dramas on television.
With Rhimes as her guide, Rae hopes to fulfill her dream of creating "relatable" characters for mainstream television, a place where she has said, "I don't see me."
