Halloween, football and Hurricane Sandy kept audiences out of theaters.

Hurricanes, holidays and football...oh, boy. A multitude of distractions kept people away from the theater in a disappointing weekend at the box office. Those few who did buy tickets did so mostly for Ben Affleck's Argo, which won the weekend with $12.4 million. Its cumulative $60 million take and glowing critical reviews have made the drama the first true hit of Oscar season.
Hotel Transylvania, voiced by Cee Lo Green and Selena Gomez, came in second place and has totaled a remarkable $130 million since its release, a new record in animation for studio Sony Pictures.
It was a dismal weekend for new entry Cloud Atlas, starring Halle Berry and Tom Hanks, which barely made the top three with $9.4 million. That's bad news for a film that cost over $100 million to produce. Looks like despite Berry's efforts to charm the masses, audiences didn't feel like dealing with the complex themes and plot of the time-traveling film.
Next week, with Hurricane Sandy hopefully a distant memory, the RZA's The Man With the Iron Fists goes up against Denzel Washington's Flight. Can either of them give Argo a run for its money?
