Dwyane Wade Blasted for Post-Sandy Tweet
Dwyane Wade may have been too fast with his fingers when he fired off a controversial tweet on Friday. The Miami Heat star came to New York City, still in the throes of post-Sandy cleanup, to play against the Knicks when he made an ill-timed complaint about traffic delays.
"3 hour traffic just to get into the NY city… #C’monMan," Wade tweeted while stuck on one of the many congested highways left shredded by the storm. After facing an immediate and vocal backlash, the basketball player deleted the tweet and offered a clarification.
"2 be clear 'Traffic tweet was meant 2 say'… We shouldn’t B [here] 2 play a basketball game when theirs so many families obviously still R affected by #Sandy," he quickly explained. Wade later announced that he would donate his $210,000 paycheck from the game toward relief efforts.
The Knicks beat the Heat by upwards of 20 points in the game.
